Terms of service.

These terms cover the agreement between you and Handled when you use the app, website, and related services. We've tried to write them in plain English. They are governed by New Zealand law.

01What Handled is

Handled is a personal finance tool that helps you see where your money goes, set budgets, track savings goals and loans, and project your retirement number. Handled is not a bank, a registered financial adviser, or a wealth manager. We can't move your money, authorise payments, or give personalised financial advice.

Anything you see in Handled is general information only. Talk to a registered financial adviser before making significant decisions about your money.

02Your account

  • You must be at least 16 years old and a resident of New Zealand to use Handled.
  • You are responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials safe and for any activity that happens through your account.
  • One account per person. Don't share your account with other people.
  • Tell us right away if you think someone else has accessed your account.

03Subscription and billing

  • Handled costs NZ$10 per month, billed monthly via Stripe.
  • New accounts get a 14-day free trial with full access. We don't ask for a card to start the trial.
  • If you start a paid subscription, it renews automatically each month until you cancel.
  • You can cancel any time from your account settings or by emailing us. Cancellations take effect at the end of the current billing period.
  • Refunds: if Handled is broken in a way that prevents you from using it, email us and we'll sort you out, including refunds where appropriate. Otherwise refunds are at our discretion.
  • We may change the price with 30 days' notice. If you don't like the new price, cancel before it takes effect — no hard feelings.

04How we use your data

Covered in detail on the privacy policy. The short version: we collect what we need to make Handled work, we don't sell your data, and the subscription is the entire business model.

05Acceptable use

Don't do anything illegal, harmful, or deceptive with Handled. Specifically:

  • Don't try to break the service, reverse-engineer it, or scrape data from it.
  • Don't upload data that isn't yours or that you don't have permission to use.
  • Don't use Handled to commit fraud, evade tax, or hide income from anyone you're legally required to disclose it to.

We may suspend or close accounts that breach these rules, with notice where possible.

06Accuracy of forecasts

Handled's spending breakdowns, budgets, savings projections, and retirement forecasts are based on the information you provide and standard New Zealand assumptions (inflation, returns, NZ Super entitlements). They are estimates, not guarantees. Real-world results will differ. Don't make irreversible financial decisions on the basis of a Handled forecast alone.

07Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by New Zealand law:

  • Handled is provided "as is". We do our best to keep it accurate and available, but we can't promise it will be perfect or never go down.
  • We aren't liable for financial decisions you make based on information shown in Handled.
  • Our maximum liability to you for any claim is limited to the subscription fees you've paid us in the 12 months immediately before the claim.
  • Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, the Fair Trading Act 1986, or other consumer protection laws that can't be excluded.

08Changes to the service

We will add features, change features, and occasionally remove features. We will not remove a feature you are actively relying on without giving you notice and, where reasonable, a way to export your data.

09Closing your account

You can close your account at any time. When you do, we keep your data for 30 days in case you change your mind, then permanently delete it. You can ask us to delete it immediately by emailing privacy@handled.nz.

10Disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand. If we end up in a dispute, we will try to sort it out by email first. If we can't, the courts of New Zealand have exclusive jurisdiction.

11Changes to these terms

If we change anything material in these terms, we will tell you by email and post the updated version here with a new "last updated" date.
